Tense as a Grammatical Category in Sinitic: A Critical Overview

چکیده
Sinitic languages are very often described as tenseless, since they generally seen lacking ‘true’ grammatical markers of tense: thus, the interpretation time reference relies on other factors, such aspect, modal verbs, and use expressions. However, debate concerning tenseless nature Chinese has not been settled yet: several types items in have analyzed expressing both aspect tense, tense modality, or even only. In this paper, we offer a critical analysis proposals made description Standard Mandarin (so-called) dialects exponents tense. We shall show that there appears to be broad degree variation within type tense(-like) meanings expressed, with different degrees overlap between TAM categories (i.e., modality), grammaticalisation alleged markers. Furthermore, most grammaticalised located subregions northern China: thus discuss relevance our data for areal typology Sinitic.

Tense as a Nominal Category
Recent work in morphology in LFG (Nordlinger 1998, Sadler 1998, Barron 1998) has highlighted the fact that NPs in some languages inflect for the traditionally verbal categories of tense, aspect or mood (henceforth TAM). Some of the so called smallness conditions in algebra as well as in category theory, are important and interesting for their own and also tightly related to injectivity, are essential boundedness, cogenerating set, and residual smallness. In this overview paper, we first try to refresh these smallness condition by giving the detailed proofs of the results mainly by Bernhard Banaschewski and W...
متن کاملCategorizing Local Contexts as a Step in Grammatical Category Induction
Building on the use of local contexts, or frames, for human category acquisition, we explore the treatment of contexts as categories. This allows us to examine and evaluate the categorical properties that local unsupervised methods can distinguish and their relationship to corpus POS tags. From there, we use lexical information to combine contexts in a way which preserves the intended category,...

Many languages exhibit a construction which has a meaning akin to “x feels like Ving”, often called a desiderative.
